We’re trying the rare tight squeeze of a four-piece with instruments in The Doghouse tonight, with BEGGAR’S BELIEF, drawing personnel from points around the city’s hinterland. Ali Campion (vocal, ukulele, occasional percussion), Mary Lee (vocal, occasional percussion) [both formerly of Three’s Company], Ann Stonehouse (vocal, fiddle, accordion) & Barry Wake (vocal, guitar, banjo) have previously combined multiple talents [along with others] in White Star Line-up, convened to perform Look Out!, Southampton's Titanic musical story.
Though BB do a variety of covers, as an enthusiastic encourager of others' joining in, Barry* has an impressively consistent record of writing chorus songs, and these make up a fair chunk of their repertoire.
A preliminary singaround kicks things off and we'll end with some 90 mins. of BB. No door-charge, but we'll Pass the Hat for the guests. Raffle in the break, with [usually] alcohol and confectionery as prizes. M.C.: Paul Clarke
* fresh from appearing on Friday 10th at Hanger Farm Arts Ctr., Totton, in The Night The Ship Went Down (some of the Look Out! songs, retold from the viewpoint of the crew) co-written, and -performed, with Jeff Henry and Brian Hooper.
