Guest: DAVE HUNT
Singer, guitarist and songwriter, based in west Hampshire, DAVE HUNT is more familiar to patrons of Ringwood F C these days, and often appeared with his eponymous trio. Periodically, he'd turn up at The Fo'c'sle in its previous guise. Dave has been playing his style of music since the mid 90s and enhances his repertoire with songs of his own. He gave us two solo sets tonight: unfortunately, due to fears of coronavirus (Covid-19), his occasional harmonica duoist Dave Roberts elected to stay home. We heard a mix of different slants on contemporary standards (among them Blackberry Way, Mr Bojangles and Ancient History) and some high-quality self-penned songs. His mellow voice well suits the singing tone of his guitar and fingerpick style.
We were made even more aware of this 'classical' feel when an unexpected visiting Spaniard, Alonso, played the instrument solo during the singaround element of the evening. His female companion gave some intense, high-volume vocal performances, both in Spanish and creditably authentic Engish [which she also spoke well], and another Spanish friend played some beatuifully relaxed guitar accompaniment on an Ed Sheeran number.
