Ye people all, in God rejoice
And sing to Him with cheerful voice.
Praise Him for all His wonders done
For sending His beloved Son.

Chorus:
O how can man forbear to sing
When earth with angels' notes doth ring!

'Twas on this ever-blessed morn
The Saviour of mankind was born
The happy news did angels bring
The shepherds heard them sweetly sing:

"Glory to God enthroned on high"
Filled all the regions of the sky;
With sweet hosannas they proclaim,
"On earth be peace, good will to men."

"With grateful hearts and joy sincere
Praise Him whom heaven and earth revere.
Praise Him for all his wonders done.
In sending His beloved Son.

Notes:
From the sleevenotes of "Angels a-shouting":

In 1899 Frederick Scourse of Cheddar noted down six unusual carols from Tom Gilling, an old chorister. Stylistically they range from old West Gallery settings to 19th century popular non-conformist hymnody. ... We first heard them from Jim Small.
